WERS in the Media

This month WERS has been featured in a range of media outlets, reflecting both the inspiring community work happening here in the North East and the wider challenges faced by people seeking asylum across the UK.

Looking to the stars with Kielder Observatory

Two articles — in The Northern Echo and Newcastle Magazine — highlighted our partnership with Kielder Observatory through the Explore Your Universe: Valuing Inclusion programme. Refugees and people seeking asylum have been taking part in STEM workshops and stargazing sessions, discovering the wonders of the night sky while building confidence and connections.

Asylum housing

At the same time, WERS was also mentioned in BBC News and the Express in coverage of the government’s asylum housing policies. These articles drew attention to the pressures facing communities as hotels are used to accommodate people seeking asylum, and the wider housing challenges that result.
